This book shows that failure to assess the significant cultural differences between China and the West has seriously affected our understanding of both classical and contemporary China, and makes the translation of attitudes, concepts, and issues extremely problematic.

吕坤维（Louise Sundararajan）， 生于云南，获台湾东海大学英语语言文学学士学位、哈佛大学宗教史博士学位和波士顿大学心理咨询博士学位，现定居美国。她曾担任人类现实与意义心理国际协会主席、美国心理协会人本主义心理学分委会主席，并于2014年荣获后者颁发的“亚伯拉罕·马斯洛奖”。现担任《人本主义心理学家》 《人本主义心理学期刊》等重要国际学术期刊编委委员。她主导的中国本土心理学运动已吸引全球200余位学者加入。自本书英文版出版以来，吕坤维博士已应用其理论指导并开展多项有关中国少数民族的文化、认知和情绪的研究。此外，由她研制开发的中文语言分析软件系统（SSWC-中文版）在文化、情绪和认知等研究中已发挥出重大的应用价值。在理论研究之外，她还从事罪犯心理矫治的临床实践工作。工作之余，她也偶尔偷闲去抱孙子。
